David Gordon Hughes Biography.

David Gordon Hughes was born in Belfast in 1957. Although receiving no formal artistic training in his youth he was greatly influenced by the early 20th century European and Irish artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Renoir, J B Yeats, Paul Henry, Dan O`Neill and Gerard Dillon. When he eventually felt confident to exhibit his work it was met with immediate acclaim.
The subject and composition of his paintings play a secondary role to mood, atmosphere, texture and above all layers of color; all built on the luxurious ground of gold leaf which forms the underlay of nearly all his work. In addition to his abilities as a painter, he is also an accomplished sculptor. For several years he was a regular exhibitor at the Royal Ulster Academy and he also exhibits at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. Gordon Hughes has participated in numerous group shows and has had solo exhibitions in Ireland and London.
