Jean Tannous’s love of art began very early in his childhood, stemming out of deep influence from his parents, who were both artistic and talented individuals. Tannous (b. 1946) recieved formal training at a university and later began a career as a university art professor in his native Lebanon. In his thirties Tannous moved to France and began establishing himself in Europe as a professional artist. He was president to many associations in Paris, where he taught art and maintained a gallery.
For over twenty years, Tannous exhibited his work and was received within and outside of Europe. His distinct style of painting made him a very special artist. He could even be called nomothetic because he deals with translating universal statements into visual form. It is easy to notice that Tannous’s work is full of energy, emotions and life. His subject matter is consistent: flowers, fields, animals and people. Within his compositions, Tannous often employs the modern art practice of squeezing the acrylic paints directly from the tube onto the picture. Texture and layers are created through the addition of materials such as bits of cellophane, glitter and foil. The final step in his work is the application of a special varnish that seals the painting from dust and sun while adding a glossy finish.
The unique creative process of Jean Tannous offers a world that changes what is seen from day into night. His richly colorful paintings present both substance and celebration. Now in his sixties, Tannous resides in Montreal, Canada with his family.
