Bastion is a safe haven, a solid structure with a golden interior. Seen through the grate, the light within reflects on the surfaces like a temple adorned with ceremonial temple detail. The top portion lifts off to allow access to the candle chamber. I am imagining a bundle cast off the side of a ship and now washed ashore. Its Polynesian roots and African handcrafted implements are set against the worn painted surfaces from studio scraps. Wooden artifacts from around the globe add detail and worldly sensibility. The structure has proven its durability and now safe, assumes a meditative posture. Made from eco-friendly, up-cycled materials, Bastion is an artist-made, hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind creation that blends sustainable art with inventive design. Its three-dimensional structure and use of repurposed elements make it an original, sustainable sculpture full of both beauty and purpose.
